It's time for a letter!

Dear Parents and Students,

I apologize for not writing on our blog in a long time.  I can guarantee that everything is well in the Gr.3 class and everyday is part of a learning curve.

We had the Music Scavenger Hunt on Wednesday, March 23rd.  What great fun we had!  Everyone in our class did their best.  The Gr.4’s walked away as the winners.  They were very fast and accurate.  Congratulations to the Gr.4’s!!!  Well done!  Thank you Ms. Faye, for all the organization and effort!  Thank you Gr.4’s, for being great competitors!

Next week will be another FUN week!  On Thursday, March 31st, 2011, we will have International Day at school.  Every class will display something about their chosen country.  Grade 3 has chosen Kenya!  We are very excited and a lot of effort is going into it.  We, the Gr.3’s, would like to invite all the Gr.3 parents to come have Kenyan coffee and some treats with us on Thursday at 10.00am – 11.00am.  We are also working on a short performance for you.  Come learn something about Kenya with us!  It is going to be FUN, FUN, FUN!

Curriculum progress:
Math:  We finished and reviewed Chapter 16.  On Wednesday, March 30th, 2011, the students will be tested on Chapter 15 and 16.
English:  We started with Unit 10 this week.  Unit 10 is about how to write research reports.
Social Studies:  We finished and reviewed Chapter 7 and 8.  We will start with Chapter 9, The Land of Plenty.  Students also had to do a research project on Kenya this week.
Oral:  Students worked hard on their puppet shows this week.  The puppet show will take place on Wednesday, March 30th, 2011.

On Saturday, March 26th, at 8.30pm it is Earth Hour.  Remember, Students!  I am definitely going to take part!

Next Friday, April 1st, there will be no school for the students of HIS.  The teachers will have a professional development day.  Students, you have the day off!  The following week, April 4th – April 8th, is Spring Break.  The school will be closed.  Enjoy the rest!

Our student of the week is Jonathan Sun.  Jonathan is a hard worker and tries his best in all areas of school.  His scores look great!
In week 5 our student of the week was Airi Saito.
In week 6 our student of the week was Michitaro Yasui.

Well done, all the stars of the week!  I am so proud of you.  Your enthusiasm and improvement is wonderful to experience.

Stanford Yu celebrated his birthday with us on Thursday, March 17th.  He treated us with lovely goody bags and very delicious cake!  Thank you, Stanford!  We had great fun with you on March 17th.

More exciting things to come!

Dear Parents and Students,

Time is certainly flying! And with a shorter week like this week, due to the national holiday on Monday, time went extremely fast! So many exciting events are waiting for us this semester, so it is a good thing that time is flying!

Parents and Students, remember about our Sports Day next Saturday, March 12th. Students, please arrive at 8.00am. Also remember to bring your water bottles, filled with water – you can refill them at school. Bring a hat/cap, some sunscreen (maybe Mr. Sun will decide to show up!), a sweater ( in case Mr. Sun decides to stay away), and a snack. Make sure to eat a good breakfast before you arrive! There will be a Taco Store, but only after 11.00am.

On April 13th we will have a pottery day at school. Students, you all got the newsletter. It sounds like a lot of awesome fun! The cost is NT$250. Students, bring your money before March 11th so we can book you a spot and make sure the people from Yinge bring enough clay for all of us!

Another huge exciting event is our Field Trip on April 29th. We are going to the Science Museum in Taichung. Arrangements for the fieldtrip will be given to you closer to the time. Visit our blog often so you can stay up to date!

Curriculum progress for Week 4:
Math: We finished and reviewed Chapter 13. We had a peek into Chapter 14 and did the first lesson.
English: We are becoming good writers! We finished Unit 8 this week.
Science: We finished and reviewed Unit D, the Earth in Space. (chapter 8, 9 and 10)
Social Studies: We started with the third unit, Settling the Land. (Chapter 7 is about settling the Northeast)
Reading: We worked in the practice book and read the next story in our textbooks. Students got an assignment to look at four biographies in the Reading Book. They have to complete a worksheet on it.

Test dates for Week 5:
Math ~ March 7th ~ Chapter 12 & 13
Science ~ March 9th ~ Chapter 8, 9 & 10
English ~ March 11th ~ Unit 7 & 8

Have a look at all the PowerPoint documents made by the Gr.3 students. I am VERY impressed by them!
(in the previous blog post)

Our student of the week is Kevin Yang! Kevin joined our class in the beginning of the semester and he is working hard. He is already making remarkable progress. Congratulations, Kevin! You are a star!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Gr.3 PowerPoint Presentations = EXCELLENT

The grade 3 class spent the last few weeks researching and creating a PowerPoint presentation.  Their assignment was to compare one inner and outer planet.  The students worked very hard and I think you will agree that they did an outstanding job!
